Here you see the artwork:
It is made by the artist Sjoerd Buisman
back in 1992
What does it represent.
Starting point for this work is ‘the bud of a plant’.
A plant rises up from the street.
In the ground you will find the fossil bud, the priméval shape back, as the opposit of the above-ground part.
A fossil is the naturally preserved remains or traces of animals or plants that lived in the past.
We found many fossils here on the former Zuiderzee.
Both parts fit will together, it is only a matter of puzzling in which way.
Back in 2003, the city council, meeting behind you in the town hall, wanted to give the artwork a fresh coat of paint.
They thought the artwork looked like a tulip, so what about red.
But it is not: who pays, who decides,
no, it is the artist who decides.
So no fancy collors.
It is a big risky hole in the middle of the sidewalk.
But they solved it verry well by lightning the artwork during the night in a beautifull way.
and thank you for your interest.
